YAY! SOPA/PIPA put on hold! We won....Right..? False. Say hi to bill H.R. 1981

“Protecting Children From Internet Pornographers Act of 2011"

Under the guise of protecting kids from being used in child pornography this, this bill will make your ISP (Internet Service Provider) to keep a 18month record of your entire search history, what sites you visit, what you do on the sites etc including everything you purchase and your entire financial information used in said purchase including credit card info and IP address.

Just to "make sure" your not looking at child porn or searching for it or uploading/sharing it.

Bullshit

What H.R. 1981 is trying to do is amend a law already in place allowing authorities to legally issue subpoenas to get your ISP to start collecting information (because it was never stored before, you were not suspected of anything yet). It plans to amend this law by making your ISP at all times monitor all your online activities and keep detailed records of it for 18 months for the government to look at whenever it wants.

Even if you have done nothing wrong.

But dont worry! They care about you and your privacy! Just read this!

(1) to encourage electronic communication service providers to give prompt notice to their customers in the event of a breach of the data retained pursuant to section 2703(h) of title 18 of the United States Code, in order that those effected can take the necessary steps to protect themselves from potential misuse of private information; and
(2) that records retained pursuant to section 2703(h) of title 18, United States Code, should be stored securely to protect customer privacy and prevent against breaches of the records.

Provisions added for your safety! So dont worry about these guys having all your personal bank records and search history etc. They will make sure no one can get to it!

Just like every other company that got hacked and all their clients and customers credit cards emails and what not that got leaked to the Internet.

Anyone remember the Facebook dumps? Or Playstation Network?

Or how about the government contracted security firm  HBGary that Anonymous hacked. The Anonymous hacking group that the government and FBI say is a bunch of kids behind proxies. In case you dont know, the CEO of this firm talked shit about Anonymous and how they had info on them blah blah and within 24hrs guess what? They got hacked and out in place. CEO resigned. Fail

So really how safe will our information be?

But how nice enough of them to "notify" us if it is hacked so we can waste our fucking time canceling all our cards, making disputes of purchases and getting new information and all that fancy jazz.

Fun fact: This bill was made by Lamar Smith. The same Senator that introduced SOPA. HR 1981 made last year in May. And was kept until now to be pushed and rushed (after SOPAs inevitable defeat) into law.

It already passed the initial hearing.

The battle is not over guys. If you want your privacy and freedom, and you oppose this bill your a pedophile.

Lamar Smith, greatest troll ever? Maybe

So, besides the fact they are playing on most of our hate for these sick pedophiles and naming their censorship bill in such a way, let me tell you that it is EXTREMELY hard to find "CP" of child porn on the net. Its just not there. A pedophile will not risk sharing his/her collections on public or even private sites. Way to risky. Google indexes BILLIONS of things on the Internet and they filter a lot of the CP out. Even blocking Google search results for CP.

You cant find it. Its to damn difficult. You may get luck but expect the FBI party van to come rolling by your house.

Most of the sick pedo fucks use darknets or other means to share their stuff. And guess what? SOPA or PIPA or HR 1981 will not and cannot stop these methods.

So is it all really worth it? No. Is it even effective? No. Will it stop CP in any capacity? No.

Just no.

This is no more then a tactic to censor free speech and free flow of information.

  1. Looks to be a win for now at least, let's just hope it stays that way.

  2. Lol. Don't large companies already do what those provisions call for? That won't do a thing to stop people from hacking them. Hacking for some people is just about the easiest thing in the world. If you check the trending pastes on pastebin every few days, you'll find lists of thousands of hacked accounts including Facebook accounts, credit card accounts, Xbox live accounts, and PSN accounts. The stupid ass people who approve of bills like this only see the small part that is good and they either don't see, ignore, or are too fucking retarded to see how the bad things outweigh all the good that will ever come from them.

  4. Meh, this is sh*t.
On the other hand, it seems inevitable. When advanced technologies are created the government will want to use them to gain better control over their people. I think the battles for freedom of mind will soon begin...

  8. No surprise, as congress is full of misguided old men being paid by a variety of interests... they don't even know how to work the internet, let alone police it.

  9. I am pretty sure this bill isn't going away just yet, they might be waiting for the next big "news story" to keep everyone occupied while the bill silently passes.

That's how it usually seems to go at least.

  10. This is complete BS. Anyone that is a pedo and uses the regular internet is going to be vanned and caught, probably just by local pd and not even the feds. They know this, and use darknet and private networks for this material, which 99% of the public have absolutely no idea about or even the slightest clue of how to access these networks. Laws regarding technology should be made by people that UNDERSTAND technology, not some old dumbass who's entire career has been politics and has never worked a day in their life. sorry for my rant, this stuff really gets to me.

    1. Dont be sorry. You are absolutely correct. It is a bunch of bullshit power grabs at the web by whores, i mean politicians, willing to do anything for the mighty dollar who know NOTHING about internet, networking, and how shit like this can cripple people and information.

Pisses me off just as much at you do. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

  13. Fuck, I hate how peoples' buttons can be pushed so easily nowadays. Want something to pass? Call your opponents perverts, or communists, or liberals, or elitists or socialists.

Not to mention that this sort of legislation, if passed, would be unrealistically draconian. I'm pretty sure that if they started having zero-tolerance on piracy, at least 2/3rds of America would be in prison...

  15. I think this was a major victory that both got tabled, but I wait to see what they will sneak into bills in the future. The interests that want this protection have a LOT of money to spend on influence. Great blog, following you now!

  20. wow, it was an interesting read.

I agree. That bill will never solve CP. There are other things they can do to stop CP by not accessing private info from other people.

Thanks for following. I followed you back. :)

  22. Well, that certainly didn't take much time. In other words, what Lamar Smith is proposing is analogous to protecting children riding in the back seat from drunk driving accidents by requiring a registry of all alcohol transactions and consumption -- a concept where the magnitude of stupidity and practical application are equal.
