Megauplaod was taken down by the FBI not to long ago and 7 people including the owner have been arrested for profiting off distributing copyrighted content causing an estimated loss of over $500,000,000 dollars.
But according to some, the services provided by Megaupload are used by millions of people legally. Uploading their own personal information, data, backup information, documents for their business to share with others etc. Many users do not know if their private information is lost forever, if it will be examined, protected, of if they will ever be able to retrieve it.
Pirates Party International is gathering a list of users that lost valuable data due to the FBI takedown, to file an official complaint against the US authorities and to build a case.

ACTA - Worse then SOPA/PIPAHow to bypass Internet Censorship and ACTA
Internet seems to be a double-edged sword. Piracy issues are endless. Interesting news!

Saw this coming. The Megaupload take down was done all kinds of wrong.
ReplyDeleteWell i wish that could bring it back i also do think there is a whole shitload of mess behind this act, we will see.
ReplyDeleteWith multiple nations involved, this one is complicated. It will be interesting to see how it pans out.
ReplyDeleteGood. They should be just as accountable for their actions as everyone else.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. But sadly if your famous or have money then laws dont apply to you. Its bullshit.
DeleteI'd heard they were going to do it. What I don't understand is how the FBI circumvented extradition laws in the first place. And since this was an international "sting" why wasn't interpol involved? I wish them success, but the cards are stacked against them.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. The FBI seem to think they have jurisdiction everywhere.
DeleteThey going to be screwed pretty bad now!
ReplyDeleteI hope they get what they deserve..
ReplyDeleteVery interesting, I hope Megaupload will come back soon.
ReplyDeleteI really like this.
ReplyDeleteI hope this works and they get what they deserve. I don't upload a lot to MegaUpload but I did lose some files because of the take down. Just because the majority is using it to pirate stuff doesn't mean that everyone is doing the same.
ReplyDeleteI used to be a member for Megaupload premium. I only used it because I hated that 72 min. limit they had.
ReplyDeleteI hope they win this suit against the FBI.
Agreed. Even if Megaupload doesnt return, maybe it get the FBI and anyone to carefully do the takedown rather then just arrest and shut down the site. A lot of people had even bought the premium service the day it went down, and countless people lost legit legal info.
Deleteshould of used mega skipper to bypass the limit ;)
DeleteCheck on my blog.
ReplyDeleteI have similar information on ACTA.
Please keep posting. Very interesting.
