Arizona Law Would Make It Illegal to Teach Law, History, or Literature

And just when you thought laws couldn't get worse or be based on even more stupid ideas.

Meet SB 1467

Newly introduced in the Arizona State Senate, it would force schools and universities to suspend, fine, and ultimately fire any teacher or professor who “engage[d] in speech or conduct that would violate the standards adopted by the federal communications commission (FCC) concerning obscenity, indecency and profanity if that speech or conduct were broadcast on television or radio.”

Lol why would teachers be subject to TV and radio laws?

Anyway, 1st offense is 1 week no pay, 2nd is 2 weeks, and the 3rd offense is a pink slip.

Greg Lukianoff of the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education says that this law would not only block the teaching of such classics as Ulysses, The Canterbury Tales, and Catcher in the Rye, it’d prohibit historians and law professors from competently discussing campus free speech regulations, since the most important Supreme Court case in that field hinged on a jacket with the slogan “Fuck The Draft” written on it.

It’s also worth noting, as Lukianoff does, that the bill would regulate professors’ actions outside the classroom, which means that merely writing the paragraph above — in a blog post, a scholarly article, even a private email — would get you suspended.

How intrusive.

It gets worse though.

As with every bill or proposed law, its poorly written by idiots with no idea as to what they are talking about, who propose these things to feel good about themselves that they made a law and it ends up doing tons more harm in the end.

If you read the wording of the bill a teacher cant say or conduct anything that may violate the FCC regulations such as SEX or PEEING.

Sure they may not enforce that but how can you trust them on that when we cant trust them to listen to the people or write proper laws in the first place?

  1. I think it is reminiscent of Communist China under Chairman Mao. And I also fear that his is going to become standard operating procedure in a lot of places.

  6. For fucks sake, Arizona. This is a beautiful place to live, but the politicians here are as backwards and moronic as I've seen in any other state. And screw the FCC too. Dickwads.

  16. That is ridiculous... Arizona has always been known for stupid laws, but I mean come on. The idiots who came up with this must have been as motivated as the Lamar Smith with SOPA, PIPA, and HR 1981.
